The Nokia 6555, while satisfying my love of well designed and comfortable gadgets, is still a little rough on the edges.
Sporting a plastic case that feels very ‘plastic-y’, the 6555 is not what I would call a designer phone.
The case does, however, maintain a very light weight for the phone, and the flat black isn’t too hard on the eyes.
The outer display, something you’ll note right away in any ad placement or display of this phone, showcases the really nice looking analog clock Nokia has built in. It’s a bit of a frivolous design feature but looks cool and is handy when you don’t wear a watch, like me.
There’s also the now-standard cell phone camera on the outside of the case, but at 1.3 megapixels it’s hardly worth mentioning and isn’t a selling point of the phone.
Once you open up the 6555, however, that’s where this phone excels. The internal display is adequate, but the buttons, oh the buttons!
It sits very comfortably in your hand and somehow, with a flat design (as opposed to raised edges) Nokia has made this one of the easiest to dial on handsets I’ve used in quite some time. It just feels right in your hand.
Even the nav box, used to move through menus and options on the phone, is easy to find with your thumb and use and it does this being only slightly raised from the face. You can’t even really notice the depth without feeling it in your hands.
